Stockport sits on sandstone the town has quarried into for centuries, so cellars — some historic, some later converted — turn up throughout the older housing stock. Victorian terraces fill Edgeley and Reddish, Edwardian villas line Heaton Moor, and the town spreads into generous inter-war and post-war semis through Bramhall, Cheadle and Hazel Grove.
